240-ROBERT
| "Mark Harmon, John Bennett Perry (father of Mathew Perry), and I learned how to do everything the ESD guys do so we could look authentic on 240-Robert. In other words, we had to go into basic training. Because so much of ESD work is rescue, we became certified in scuba diving (well I did), became proficient with hand guns, repelled off some serious mountains, carried and hiked into some tough spots with heavy gear, and learned how to really drive. The ESD guys on set were amazing, as were our stunt guys!" Joanna |
The short-lived "240-Robert" presented the exploits of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office "Emergency Services Detail." The ESD were two deputies (John Bennett Perry and Mark Harmon) in a specially equipped four-wheel drive Ford Bronco and another deputy (Joanna Cassidy) in a helicopter. They usually encountered two or three rescue-type situations during an episode. The title "240-Robert", by the way, was the call sign/unit designation for the Ford Bronco (240-Robert-2) and the helicopter (240-Robert-Air).
